• The black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) is a species of venomous snake belonging to the family Elapidae. It is native to parts of sub-Saharan Africa.
It is the second-longest venomous snake after the king cobra; mature specimens generally exceed 2 m (6 ft 7 in) and commonly grow to 3 m (9 ft 10 in).

The species is both terrestrial and arboreal; it inhabits savannah, woodland, rocky slopes and in some regions, dense forest.
It is diurnal and is known to prey on birds and small mammals.
Over suitable surfaces, it can move at speeds up to 16 km/h (10 mph) for short distances.
Adult black mambas have few natural predators.

Its venom is primarily composed of neurotoxins that often induce symptoms within ten minutes, and is frequently fatal unless antivenom is administered.

 • A Chacma Baboon capture while running looking toward camera right, backlit by afternoon light.

The chacma baboon inhabits a wide array of habitats including woodland, savanna, steppes, and subdesert, from the grassy alpine slopes of the Drakensberg to the Kalahari desert. During the night the chacma baboon needs hills, cliffs, or large trees in which to sleep. During the day water availability may limit its range in arid areas.

 • Rhinoceros beetles are herbivorous insects named for the horn-like projections on and around the heads of males. Most are black, gray, or greenish in color, and some are covered in soft hairs. Another name given to some of these insects is Hercules beetle, because they possess strength of a herculean proportion. Adults of some species can lift objects 850 times their weight! That would be equivalent to a human lifting 9 fully grown male elephants! One of the uses for extreme strength is for the beetles to dig themselves into leaf litter and soil to escape danger. Their horns also help them to do this.
