  • I found the end of the rainbow and it didn’t disappoint! I followed this gorgeous female cheetah as she looked for her sub-adult daughters. The sky had been dark and dreary but the sun managed to peek through and create the most gorgeous sliver of rainbow in the distance and the small bit of light illuminated her before she went over a ridge and out of sight.

  • She pawed at my lens as I sat beside her, everything is a potential toy at this age. After her mothers death, she was rescued & taken into care. She was getting to the age where it would be too dangerous to be this close anymore. Leopard are notoriously unpredictable and dangerous, so this special moment was not lost on me.

  • Historically, cheetahs have been hunted for their fur, but today some of the biggest threats to their survival are loss of habitat, and competition for resources. Cheetahs require large areas of land for survival, so increased human settlements and road construction in their habitat puts them at risk.

  • There are a few moment on ones career that truly takes the breath away, this was one of them as a cheetah takes a brief moment to look back over her shoulder as she's touched lightly in the subtle golden light of days end with a stunning rainbow and building storm in the distance. Even after almost two decades working as a wildlife photographer, it's moments like this that make me pinch myself just to make sure it's real and not all a wonderful dream.

  • African bush elephants are the largest living terrestrial animals, being up to 3.96 m (13.0 ft) tall at the shoulders (a male shot in 1974). On average, males are 3.3 metres (10.8 ft) tall at the shoulders and 5.5 tonnes (12,130 lb) in weight, while females are much smaller at 2.8 metres (9.2 ft) tall and 3.7 tonnes (8,160 lb) in weight. The most characteristic features of African elephants are their very large ears, which they use to radiate excess heat, and their trunk, an extension of the upper lip and nose with two opposing extensions at its end, different from the Asian elephant, which only has one. The trunk is used for communication and handling objects and food. African elephants also have bigger tusks, large modified incisors that grow throughout an elephant's lifetime. They occur in both males and females and are used in fights and for marking, feeding, and digging.

  • African Wild Dog is a highly successful hunter, with the majority of its chases ending in kills. It preys mainly on medium-sized ungulates, though it will take other prey such as ostriches. The African Wild Dog is found in various open habitats across sub-Saharan Africa, though its range has been greatly reduced. It requires large territories for its survival, a factor which creates challenges for its conservation.

  • With less than six thousand Black Rhino left on earth, seeing them in the wild is one of the great privileges I get as a wildlife photographer and filmmaker in Africa. A subadult stood behind its mother for just a moment as the moon rose behind them. A truly magical scene and one I had to really push my camera to get in such dark conditions. I bundled up a jacket and leaned it on the edge of the vehicle I was in. I tried to balance it as steadily as I could to get a slow enough exposure to capture this once in a lifetime scene.

Colouring ranges through various shades of green, yellow, and brown. There is usually a pale stripe on the lower flanks and one to three pale patches higher on the flanks. These chameleons lay 25 to 50 eggs in a hole dug in soil, which is covered over again by the female.

  • Mountain Gorillas (Gorilla Beringei) also known as Silverback (adult male mountain gorillas are called Silverbacks because of the silver saddle of hair on their backs) live in forests high in the mountains. They live in groups and each gorilla family has a silverback as leader who scares away other animals. Gorillas are herbivores, and eat only plants. They spend most of their day foraging for food.<br />
Since the discovery of the mountain gorilla subspecies in 1902, its population has endured years of war, hunting, habitat destruction and disease. With conservation efforts, the population is increasing but the specie is still classified endangered on the IUCN red list.
